RAKO – Research & Communication Centre

Resources

A regional organization based in Hargeisa with extensive network & knowledge with the ability,
capacity to develop research and communication strategies that have a lasting impact.

More recently we have seen the emergence and impact of social media in our society where the traditional boundaries of time and space are challenged and renegotiated. We like to consider the FCC as an empowering tool to help communities and institutions, whether private or public, use communication sources and skills in order to facilitate and foster change. In other words, rather than just focusing on how to transfer a message we take a step back and work with people in order to facilitate how that message is communicated in a way that is completely owned by those who are trying to communicate all kinds of information. Our job is to actively listen to people’s perspectives and stories  and assist them to take a direction that is more meaningful to their courses and the kind of messages they are trying to communicate.

Furthermore, at Rako we acknowledge the critical role of communication, which is to foster change, raise awareness and deliver a message. More importantly, we fully understand that messages communicated, should be authentic accurately representing the views and voices of the owners. Rako’s FCC, therefore, puts the emphasis on process when it comes to communication consisting of the following critical areas:

  1. Active listening
  2. Meaningful engagement
  3. Adequate facilitation
  4. Enhanced participation
